The Baltimore BASE (Business Assistance & Support for Equity) Network is a collaboration of 15 Baltimore entrepreneurial support organizations led by the Baltimore Development Corporation that works together to engage and support BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) owned, women owned, and other disadvantaged small businesses in accessing pandemic related assistance and other forms of capital and business support. The Network was formed at the onset of the covid pandemic in April 2020 and has helped over 4,000 Baltimore small businesses access more than $50 million in financial assistance and working capital. The Emerging Technology Centers (ETC) is an award-winning technology and innovation center focusing on entrepreneurship, technology and connections. It is also the City’s first incubator. The ETC provides its member companies with a variety of resources, such as seed capital, mentors, potential partners, and a collaborative community. Since 1999, ETC has provided assistance to hundreds of companies, which have created thousands of jobs and raised billions of dollars in outside funding. Made In Baltimore (MIB) is a program aimed at spurring reinvestment in Baltimore City by growing the market for locally-produced goods. The program supports local makers and manufacturers through a brand certification program, promotion and marketing events, and business development services. The long-term mission of the program is to create economic opportunity through living-wage jobs in manufacturing as companies grow. BDC introduced a pilot process and metrics framework at the 2023 Baltimore Together to evaluate the vitality of the city's commercial corridors. This initiative, demonstrated on various commercial corridors across the city, aims to analyze unique characteristics and environmental influences shaping each corridor. The goal is to provide comprehensive, data-backed insights to empower decision-makers and community partners in enhancing Baltimore's retail landscape. Beyond numerical analysis, the focus is on understanding the qualitative essence of these corridors, offering a roadmap for creating vibrant urban spaces that appeal to businesses and residents alike. This program will be accepting applications for participation from commercially-focused community based organization soon.
