BDC Receives Five 2024 Excellence in Economic Development Awards from the International Economic Development Council

Baltimore, MD—The Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) announced today that it has been honored with five 2024 Excellence in Economic Development Awards from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). The IEDC’s annual Excellence Awards recognizes transformative economic development projects that have profoundly impacted communities, regions, and nations.

BDC was one of only three organizations to win five awards, the highest number given this year, and the only organization in the world to receive four Gold Awards. The awards were bestowed specifically for the following economic development projects and categories:

"BDC is setting the standard of excellence for economic development. These awards highlight BDC’s commitment to its community and demonstrate the transformative impact of economic development,” said Nathan Ohle, IEDC president and CEO, “It is with great pride that IEDC presents this award to BDC, celebrating their leadership and innovation in the field of economic development."

Every year, IEDC looks specifically for economic development organizations, government entities, initiatives, and programs that have demonstrated consistent, exemplary performance in the economic development profession. The Excellence Awards spotlight organizations leading the execution of projects that have a significant impact on revitalizing communities and playing a major role in shaping and improving the practice of economic development.

"I’m proud to congratulate the Baltimore Development Corporation on these well-deserved awards from the International Economic Development Council. BDC’s work—from advancing economic equity through the Baltimore BASE Network to revitalizing Lexington Market—directly supports my vision for a more equitable Baltimore,” said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. “These projects ensure that economic growth benefits every resident, and together, we’re building a city where opportunity is accessible to all. I look forward to continuing our partnership in creating a stronger, more inclusive Baltimore."

“These awards are a testament to the collective efforts of our team and partners who are deeply committed to driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth in Baltimore,” said Colin Tarbert, president and CEO of BDC. “We’re honored to be recognized on an international stage for our work that’s creating a lasting, positive impact for our city.”
